The cost of bookkeeping for a small business depends on the size and condition of your books, and at Steele Bookkeeping, every quote is customized. We provide monthly QuickBooks Online bookkeeping plans for small and mid-sized businesses across the United States, and this page explains what affects the price and what you can expect to get.
Two businesses can need very different levels of service. The main factors are:
Transaction volume. More transactions to categorize and reconcile means more work each month.
Number of accounts. Each bank account, credit card, and loan must be reconciled.
The condition of your books. If your books are behind or contain errors, a one-time cleanup and catch-up may be needed first.
Payroll. Running payroll adds processing and reporting.
The right price depends on what you need, so we offer two plans:
Essentials (starting at $500/month) includes transaction coding and categorization, monthly bank and credit card reconciliation, accounts receivable and accounts payable tracking, and a profit and loss statement and balance sheet.
Plus (starting at $750/month) includes everything in Essentials, plus payroll processing and reporting, invoice and bill management, a monthly review call, and a year-end package for your CPA.
These are starting prices, and your final quote reflects the size and complexity of your books. You can compare the plans in detail on our Pricing page.
For most small business owners, yes. A bookkeeper gives you back the hours you would spend on data entry and reconciliation, and the time to focus on running your business. Accurate books also help you make confident decisions, avoid costly mistakes, and arrive at tax time prepared.
You can, particularly in the early stages when you have few transactions. However, as your business grows, bookkeeping becomes more time-consuming, and mistakes can be expensive to correct. Many owners hand it off once they realize how many hours it takes.
